Lorna McKeon

BSc (Hons) Optom, MAOI

We are Eimear and Lorna McKeon, qualified Ophthalmic Opticians and sisters from Tynagh, County Galway. We attended the local Community School and were delighted to return to Portumna to establish McKeon’s Opticians. We are both graduates of Cardiff University, Wales, have Bachelors of Science with Honours degrees in Optometry, and are registered with CORU, the Regulatory Board for Optometrists (and other health care professionals) in Ireland.

We each have over 23 years’ experience in the optical world, having worked in a variety of optometric fields. Our specialist experiences include working closely with different hospital ophthalmology units in the UK and Ireland to provide a range of different services. Amongst these services were direct cataract referrals and post cataract assessment, glaucoma referral refinement, fast track macular disease referral services, colour filter and overlay assessments for those with visual stress / dyslexia, and pre and post laser eye surgery assessments.

In addition to being opticians and sisters we are also great friends, who share lots of enthusiasm and energy for work and life!

We are proud to offer our extensive range of eyecare services here in Portumna, and can promise a professional and friendly service with a smile.

If you need an eye exam, contact lenses or spectacles then please get in touch. We’d love to help!

Meet the team

Olivia

Optical Assistant and Team Leader

Olivia has been with us since 2015. She will do anything she can to help with orders, repairs, PRSI and HSE paperwork and much more, and she will always do this with a smile.

Frances

Optical Assistant, with particular interest in Frame Selection

Frances joined the team in 2019 and has an excellent eye for style. She will happily help you with selecting the right frame that we believe you will love. Behind the scenes Frances helps to keep all the paperwork in order too.

Petra

Optical Assistant, with particular interest in Social Media and contact lenses

Petra also joined our team in 2019 and she is brilliant at helping those new to contact lenses, by teaching them how to put their lenses in and out and how to care for them. She too has a great eye for style and frame selection, as well as managing all our social media.

Christine

Optical Assistant

Christine is our Saturday support optical assistant who joined us in 2018 following her one-week work experience, which had been organised as part of the Transition year programme. She is still in school but pops in every Saturday to help us with many of the administrative tasks. She can also help with frame selection and frame repairs.
